There was a time when Northerly Island used to be an airport called Meigs Field. My Father flew in and out of there on several occasions in his time-share Cessna when I was in grade school. I don't ever recall seeing the planes takeoff and land at Meigs, and now that the runway is gone I never will. There may have been more air traffic then, but honestly, my camera seems to capture just as much action in the sky as it does on the water. This is one of my favorite snapshot sequences... it is a seaplane departing out of Lake Michigan east of where the Meigs runway used to be.
